Last Thursday, Amsterdam’s beloved mayor passed away at the age of 62. Eberhard van der Laan worked extensively to promote and support arts and culture within the capital. His devotion to keeping arts organisations like Unseen alive contributed to Amsterdam's cultural sector in unprecedented ways.
As a politician of the Labour Party, van der Laan served as the Mayor of Amsterdam since July 2010. Additionally, as a member of Unseen’s Board of Recommendation, he recognised the importance of fresh and innovative cultural endeavours, including the promotion of night life, arts events, and progressive changes to antiquated traditions within the city. Unseen extends their condolences to all who knew Mr. van der Laan, including his wife Femke and their five children. His charismatic nature will surely be missed.
